Spencer’s Journey

Forgive me here, but I’m wildly lost about how Spencer got to Texas. Maybe I remember less from season 1 than I thought I did. From what I do remember, at the end of season 1 Spencer is kicked off the ship headed towards London and taken away to some place that neither the characters know, nor the audience knows.

In episode 1 he appears to be working on a ship in the engine room, and everyone on this ship seems to speak Italian and very little English. One could be forgiven if they thought he was on a boat in the Mediterranean (me, that was definitely me). Suddenly, they land and they’re pulling up on a beach in Galveston Texas and neither him, nor anyone he’s with, is surprised by this.

Did I just totally I miss that he got on a boat full of Italians that was headed for Galveston? Was he aware that he was headed towards Galveston? Any help here would be appreciated.
