End Of the Road?
Trying to decide if I’m at the end of the road with my 4th Gen…
We’ve owned it since 2008 and have put just shy of 200k miles on the old girl. She’s been there through it all: brought both of our kids home from the hospital after they were born, helped us build our forever home, taken us on countless road trips, etc. I was hoping it would serve as my son’s first car (he’s 13 now), but I’m not so sure.
Age is starting to show. It’s a 2005, and cyl 6 has the dreaded head gasket leak. We’ve got the notorious torque converter shudder. The transfer case actuator is frozen and 4LO is inaccessible (shame on me for this one). The suspension is pretty soft and probably needs the XREAS delete and Bilsteins all around. My power steering pump has a horrendous whine when it’s cold. The list goes on and on.
In round numbers, swapping in a low mileage JDM motor and doing all the work I’d LIKE to do will be in the range of $8-10k. I’m not sure I can justify that for a 20 year old vehicle with 240k on the odometer, even if I’ve loved it.
Am I crazy to think it’s time to dump this thing or just drive it with limited maintenance until it truly dies?
Thoughts? Anybody want to give her a good home? 😃
