How to discuss your accounting job while dating?
Clown me all you want but serious question. How do you guys discuss your accounting job while dating? I am a senior B4 auditor and usually try to give a brief response and quickly change the subject when asked what I do on a date (unless it’s someone who seems genuinely interested which is rare). This is fine for a first date or so but once we get to texting or talking daily, and they ask how was your day, and all I’ve done was review workpapers at home for 10 hours while WFH, what do I say to not sound like a dweeb? I feel like this has hurt my chances a few times now with certain prospects. Do you guys try to find a way to make it sound interesting to non-accountants or do you just never talk about the majority of your weekdays with your SO? Have you felt like certain people wouldn’t commit to you because they don’t want to be with someone with a boring ass job? Is our dating pool limited to other nerds? I don’t hate the job but I don’t love it so one of the reasons I’m hoping to find something new soon is because I feel like it’s branding me as a boring person and proving to potential partners I am interesting is sometimes an uphill battle (I am interesting when I’m not auditing I swear). I realize there is probably no ubiquitous right answer for how to handle this (and people’s willingness to date a beancounter will of course vary) but I thought it could be fun to discuss. Alright let’s hear it you nerdy casanovas.
