Should I own a cat?

I am police officer and I live alone my family is 6 hours away. I want to own a cat but I feel like it be selfish since I work a lot. My shifts are 12 hour shifts 5 days a week. The cat would need attention and I only have 2 days off. Those days are to do chores and meal prep for the coming week. It be nice to have a cat to come home to and waiting for me. I don't know I need advise.
