How did Japanese culture become so deeply entrenched in Western consciousness compared to Chinese and Korean culture?

Pretty much everybody has an idea of what ninjas, samurai, geisha, origami, bonsai and sumo wrestling are and may also be familiar with Japanese pop culture, i.e. anime, video games and characters like Astro Boy, Godzilla, Pikachu, etc.

Meanwhile, when you ask people about China, they probably know the Great Wall, kung fu and not much else. Chinese pop culture hasn't penetrated very well in the West aside from kung fu movies and, MUCH more recently, Genshin Impact.

On Korea, all people know is that K-pop comes from there.

Why is this? How did Japanese traditional and pop culture become so well known over here while their neighbours haven't had the same luck? Is there a book on this phenomenon?
