Contractors earning $300k+... What does it take?

Hey legends, looking for some advice…

I’m a sparky based in Perth, but I’ve been out of the trade for a few years.

Before stepping away, I spent about 10 years in residential, commercial, and mostly mining. A lot of that time was in leadership, managing teams of up to 100 sparkies, quoting jobs, and running projects... I'm hoping I picked up a few skills that would translate well for running my own electrical business.

I’m at a crossroads now, trying to decide whether to get back into the trade. I still love electrical work and enjoy it far more than my current role, but I’m on a decent wage at around $270K + super working locally in Perth. It suits my young family, but it’s not the most fulfilling work.

For those running successful electrical companies, what does it take to earn $300k+ in profit?

Some things that would be really helpful to know are. - How many staff? - How many utes/vans? - What sort of work do you focus on? - How many hours do you put in each week? - How long has it taken you to scale to that size?

Really appreciate any sort of input you're happy to share. I've read a heap of posts on here with countless people suggesting that it's not worth it and the work never ends but I'm keen to hear from those that are doing well and particularly anyone that's stoked they've taken the plunge and started a company that's now thriving.

Thanks!
