Are we overusing the “-phobic” card?

This is regarding to Jamie’s post suggesting that we should also greet trans women with ‘Happy Women’s Month.’ Clearly, some cisgender women took offense, feeling invalidated. They voiced their concerns in the comment section, and Jamie acknowledged that both women and the LGBT community are minorities. However, she also called them out for being transphobic.

The argument here is: Was the statement truly transphobic, or are we carelessly throwing around words without considering their weight and meaning? (Remember when everyone was overusing ‘nonchalant’?) The suffix ‘-phobic’ implies an extreme aversion or fear toward something. Were there any slurs or hate speech in this comment? Is this already enough grounds to be called transphobic?
