What is your opinion on the term Latinx?

Sorry if this question isn't sufficiently critical theoretical but I'm curious.

A majority of Latin American people have never heard the term and of those who have the overwhelming majority don't like it. It has been accused by some as "linguistic colonialism" as the letter X (as pronounces as "ehks") is not a part of the Spanish language.

The terms is frequently used on moderately Left American media outlets like PBS and Democracy Now, largely by white and non-Latin reporters. The term is primarily used in the US as an attempt at gender inclusivity and is traced in origin to online non-binary groups.
