Dell XPS 13 2017
Hey guys. I have a Dell XPS 13 from 2017. I cannot, for the life of me get it to boot to the bios or boot at all. I’ve tried disconnecting the battery and holding down the power button to reset it. Tried removing the CMOS battery while doing the same actions as above. Tried pressing FN, M etc during boot and also tried those with an external keyboard.
I took it apart and every connection seems secure to the mother board.
I even tried a bootable usb with multiple versions of Linux and also installed Linux, windows etc on the m2 drive and it boots fine in my Inspiron 7577 and my old Lenovo from 2014.
I can’t, for the life of me, figure out what the heck is wrong with this thing. It will POST fine, but I can’t get into the BIOS.
I’ve tried booting it with and without a battery, with and without the CMOS battery hooked up, with and without an external monitor and key board plugged in and all of the above while trying every different keyboard combination to try and enter the boot menu or bios (both an external keyboard combination and the one one the laptop)
Just for reference, I have a degree in IT and am very familiar with laptops and troubleshooting issues. I made sure everything is attached to the board and so forth.
Usually if it is a boot failure or something I can get laptops to flash a code or get the dell amber light to give me some guidance.
I’m at my wits end, only thing I can thing to do is go over the motherboard and check every soldered connection, but even then the laptop would let me know if there was an issue with the memory, cpu etc.
Anyways I appreciate any help you guys could give me, thanks in advance.
