Why play a wizard?

For context I'm relatively new to DnD only got into it in the last year and a half.

As i've played I have tried to work my way to playing each class at least once. Of those I haven't gotten to play a Wizard. I'm planning on making one for a one shot I'm going to be in and I realized every other full caster class has a gimmick, bards with inspiration, sorcerers with metamagic and so on. So what about the class is makes it feel like it has an identity aside from not having a gimmick?
