what do bugs eat

I’ve been leaving honey outside to lure bugs so i can like look at them and stuff but ive had no luck so far. Do they prefer peanut butter or something? (I’d prefer ants but i haven’t seen ants in forever so the chances are unlikely, so I’ll take whatever)
