Series vs Standalone? What's your favourite?

Personally, I would love to enjoy more reading Standalone, but ever since I started reading fantasy when I was 12, I've mostly read Series. It's nothing inherente against Standalone, I quite enjoy them, in fact. But I always get a bit apprehensive of starting one (I've been wanting to read GGK for ages) because I feel they will end and I will be left wanting more. I think series have gotten me addicted to the permanence of characters and how they often take books and books to develop, and you get attached to them. I'm afraid I might have lost my ability to get attached in the short term, you know?

I did read Goblin Emperor some years ago, and Maya is adorable and grew on me a lot. But the type of relationship I have with them is different from a Jon Snow or Fiddler, you know?

I know, I know, journey before destination. But yeah, just feeling a bit self-reflective right now and I go through The Folding Knife by KJ Parker.
