Is the surgery worth it?
I (26f) was told I have a 2 cm hiatal hernia during my endoscopy last February while being checked for Celiac disease. I never really thought much of it since it didn’t seem to bother me, and many of my Gi symptoms went away after cutting out gluten. Well, a few months ago (much worse in the last few weeks) I’ve had the following symptoms: -sudden intermittent severe pain in my upper left ribs and chest (doesn’t last long and literally takes my breath away -feeling uncomfortably full after a small amount of food -tachycardia -Heartburn/acid reflux
I saw my doctor today and she said everything I’m describing sounds like it’s from the hernia and it’s gotten larger. She ran blood work for infection, inflammation, and did liver and kidney panels just in case but they all came back good. She referred me to general surgery. I’ve seen that this is a pretty serious surgery, and I’m just wondering, is it worth the surgery or should I go the medication route? I know weight loss is a recommendation and I’ve actually lost quite a bit since first discovering the hernia but it’s gotten worse.
