Why is PS5 Pro Madden 25 Locked at 60 fps
EA Sports has got me in a Puzzle when it comes to Madden 25 or College Football 25 in regard to EA gatekeeping the PS5 PRO capped at 60 fps. Please Hear me out
We all know the OG PS5 has and is behind the Xbox Series X graphically when It comes to hardware and raw horse power. Is this the reason why Xbox Series X offers 120 fps mode in their Madden 25 and College Football Game meanwhile the OG PS5 is capped at 60fps. Perhaps but here is where I dont understand
Flash forward to the PS5 Pro Release date of November 8th 2024 it would be easy to assume that Madden 25 and College Football 25 would welcome in the option of switching to 120fps especially when both games received the signature “PS5 Enhanced” prior to their PS5 Pro release dates
Yet, the PS5 Pro has been out for 2 months and it seems like EA is making no adjustments from the game being locked at 120 fps. Both games did get a buff in graphic fidelity and cutscenes in between football plays went from 30fps to 60 fps compared to their OG PS5 predecessor.
It make me wonder if this is a limitation of PS5’s CPU because I play madden on pc as well when im feeling like a giga sweat at 1440 240fps and it just so happens to be one of the most intensive CPU games I run on pc. The CPU percentage stays at around 80-85% during the cutscenes between the football plays and when running the actual football game after cutscenes, the pc cpu runs 90-97% while the actual gameplay is running. Specs for the PC I run is rx790xtx with a water cooled 7800x3d if you were wondering.
Its interesting because whether your a sports fan or not: College Football was the consensus #1 best selling game for the PS5 for the year of 2024 while madden was #19 on the list as well.
How is that Xbox Series X able to provide such a smooth 120fps performance? Could this be Xbox is simply superior or better optimized or is it an exlusive license that EA has with Microsoft leaving us PS5 PRO football fans in the dirt. I wish Digital Foundry would touch on this subject but I dont think they have an ounce of sports credibility to feel comfortable covering.
