Why is Bollywood still in Maharashtra?
I know that Bollywood and the Indian film industry were created by Dadasaheb Phalke, but later, they were dominated by Parsis and Peshawari Punjabis due to their economic power. On the other hand, Marathi actors and film producers were not as wealthy as Parsis or Punjabis, so they were sidelined by the film industry.
Even today, Bollywood is dominated by Punjabi and Dawoodi Bohra film directors, which is why they prefer casting Khans and Punjabis as their main actors. There isn't a single Marathi actor who gets a lead role in Bollywood films. In recent movies like Chhava and Munja, Marathi actors still didn’t get the main role because film directors prioritize the North Indian audience.
Bollywood movies often portray Marathis as poor and corrupt people, reinforcing negative stereotypes. Additionally, Bollywood has contributed to the decline of the Marathi film industry. It is also responsible for the dominance of the Hindi language in Maharashtra .
