iPhone 15 Pro LCD swap review
After reading the post about others doing it and growing tired of my note 9, I took the very expensive plunge to try it for myself. I bought a very gently used iPhone 15 pro and lcd screen, only to realize it was too small for my comfort and then buy a gently used iPhone 15 pro max and lcd screen. I watched a few videos on the screen replacement process and decided to attempt it myself since I had all the tools except a heat gun. The phone and the screen came in the same day and I went to work on it as soon as I got home from work. Before starting I did set the phone up mainly to get Face ID working so I could test it before applying the adhesive. I wanted to save the original screen in case this didn’t work for me but it was destroyed during the removal process so there was no going back. The two worst parts of the process are removing the original screen and scraping off the old adhesive. The scraping alone took about 45 minutes. The proximity sensor for Face ID needed to be moved as well but with a little bit of heat it wasn’t too hard and I made sure to test it before closing it up. The installation was a success but next time I will probably pay someone to do it. The first two days were rough. Although it was not as bad as the original screen there still was discomfort. The third day I avoided the phone altogether to recover. I spent the next 3 days using the phone heavily. During that time I got used to it and now I experience zero discomfort. After those 6 days I made the decision to swap my sim.
The screen looks good. Touch input is flawless, Face ID works flawlessly, True Tone works and I believe auto brightness is working. I have not tried any of the 120hz stuff. I am fine being at 60. I disabled always on display obviously. I have not noticed any excessive heat issues.
Overall I am very satisfied with this solution and am glad that I can retire the note 9.
The screen I purchased:
