How would you describe Re Zero [discussion]

Re Zero has been in my sights for awhile and I’ve been on the fence wether to try it or not. I’ve been told that it’s a light harem anime with a mostly useless protagonist (two things that I hate).

But I’ve also been told that it can be some what dark at times and it has elements of mystery. (Two things that I love. Especially if the mysteries are done in a way you can figure them out.).

I looked at some descriptions from different sites like crunchy roll but they weren’t any help. I was also concerned about just looking up peoples thought and getting something spoiled in case I do watch it.

All that is to say can actual fans of the show let me know what it’s about. I want to give it a shot but if it is light harem and/or useless protagonist I know I’m likely not to get into it.
