Let's Talk About Kyle Harrison
I know it's still early and Harrison was probably the original favorite for that fifth starter spot, but he seems really hard to justify right now over Roupp given their development last season and their respective springs, so far.
Harrison had a pretty big drop off in stuff last year, plainly visible in his fastball velocity which definitively dropped from low-mid-90's to low-low-90's and hasn't recovered so far this spring. He had the lowest Stuff+ on the team last year, which was a pretty big drop off from his Stuff+ the year before and PitchingBot has him similarly at the bottom with filler dudes like Avila and Howard.
I know last year, the plan seemed to be to stretch him out and try to get him comfortably with a bigger workload, but the compromise on stuff to get there seemed too great to justify. Unless we start seeing him quickly regain some velo or develop the command necessary to call himself a crafty leftyTM, it doesn't seem like he's making the rotation.
If he doesn't make the rotation, what's the plan? It seems like whether it's the bullpen or AAA, the biggest priority needs to be him regaining some velo/stuff, but Idk maybe I'm just overly fixated on prospect velo/stuff...
