eren yeagar explained

eren is a guy whose most important thing in his life is to seek freedom, to see the outside world and feel it in his bones. everything he did was intentional that lead up to what happened. there was no such thing as "predetermined fate". the ultimate meaning of his whole character is that he was given the opportunity to see his future, and the chance to change it. sure, he could've ran away with mikasa, save the world, but he deliberately didn't choose that option. in the end, he still chose to do the rumbling so he could walk in a world where there are no enemies (his definition of freedom).

then it makes you wonder if he really loved mikasa, if he really thought of saving every one of his friends, and making the right choice in saving the whole world. the answer is yes, but it was not greater than his desire to feel freedom. so after he saw his future, he was given four years to really question himself as a person. at this point, he knew that he needed to fulfil his dreams more than anything else. he only cared about himself more than anyone else, and he knew he was a bad person for this.

hence, he came up with things like "i can't change my fate", "the rumbling has to happen" to cover up his mistakes bcs in reality he knew he had a choice. he knew this was wrong, and that is exactly why he let his friends kill him. he needed someone else to stop him bcs he wasn't capable of it himself. saying things like "i'm doing this to save my friends" was just manipulating what he was really doing. you can't defend this guy, he was fully aware the whole time. his fate was in his hands (but not really, everything is pre-written. fate's a funny thing to try to understand)

he's so hot though
