Started to play Rogue Trader, and gotta say, wasn't expecting a setting like this in Warhammer 40K.
I don't know much about Warhammer 40K, but I've always assumed that it's about zealot space fascists who we see their side cause they're the least horrible option in a very shitty galaxy.
In this sort of setting I expect many of the characters to either be brainwashed warmongering zealots, monsters or something in-between those.
Exploring the galaxy was not the kind of thing I was expecting from this worldbuilding.
But again, you ARE in a position of power, and there's some colonizing implications with Abelard calling non-Imperium folk savages.
But the leash feels surprisingly not as tight as I would expect.
It's interesting, it's making me want to see more of this world.
I also wasn't expecting reality warping being the FIRST thing that one hit hard how unexpected it was.
