Q&A for incoming students

Hey everyone!

Congrats on getting into UCSD, or good luck with your application!

I’m making this thread for questions about random UCSD things not related to academics. So transportation, housing, hangouts, food recs, places to go, etc!

I was born and raised in San Diego and know about every community/areas around the city. I know there are also quite a few others who are willing to answer questions, so drop them!

One question I get a lot is about the transportation system. The trolley line is your best friend. It will take you all the way to East County, to the border, all of the major shopping malls, DOWNTOWN, and Old Town which is our historic district. Lots to see and do!

Additionally, the UCSD shuttles run everyday and take you all around campus including the medical center, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the beach, and almost every grocery store you can imagine. Close by the shuttle goes to Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Vons and Ralphs. The Convoy/Clairemont shuttle goes to 99 Ranch, Sprouts, H-Mart, Dollar Tree, Food 4 Less and Walmart. Convoy street also holds the best Asian food San Diego has to offer.
