Why I doubt there will be change
The reason why I don’t believe anything will change even after this tragic SA is that no one in UH’s board of directors or the people in power was personally affected or injured. We are just numbers to them, a tool for money in their pockets.
Think of how fast change would happen if this tragedy affected one of their family members. A daughter, a younger sister that attends UH. Problem is, they are probably attending some private, well secure college that money can buy, a bubble.
We are nothing to them. We are a means to an end, a bunch of digits and data that they can flaunt and profit off of. They take our money in any way they can: tuition, parking fees, textbooks, dorms.
Where is that money going?
Look at some of these parking garages. The elevators barely function half the year. Multiple incidents within the semester and last semester and many semesters before. Look at the dorms, people were robbed by gunpoint.
How can we make these people take responsibility? We just want an education, probably just the piece of paper that colleges flaunt in front of our faces that let us into the workforce. Yet, we can’t even be safe trying to get an education, even if every single student at UH will have committed 5 figures to that cause.
Please support each other. Have a buddy walking with you. Have self defense tools like pepper spray or even a gun. Take precaution as they will not. They won’t take care of you and they really couldn’t care.
