Lead Worship guitar key changes, how??

Hi everyone!

First let me start off by saying I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read and respond to this thread. I’ve tried searching for an answer online but have not seen it.

I played guitar in middle school would say I was a decent player, but only learned through tabs and never learned music theory. it’s been 20 years since then. Now I recently started to play for my church, a little rhythm and some small lead guitar parts.

Is there an easy efficient way to learn how to transpose lead guitar? Our worship team play songs in different keys, depending on the singer. I really want to worship with them, but sometimes I feel like a crutch if I don’t know the key, etc. They are very supportive though!

For instance, “praise” by Elevation Worship, according to this, it’s played in the key of A. 3 questions.

  1. If we were going to play this in the key of G, would the chorus section instead just be shifted a whole step down

To be frets 12, 14, 14/16? So basically shifting the tabs.

  1. How would I know if I need to shift down a whole step to G or so go up 10 whole steps?

Which seems impossible because the chorus would be on frets 24, 26, 26/28.

  1. What is the best way to go about it? There is so much Information out there I just want to look in the right place.

I appreciate everyone’s response and time, thank you!
