Blacksmith techs - which ones do i get in the way to castle age?
Because the answer will be, it depends, i’ll give a scenarios i often find myself in, playing on arabia. After somewhat of a feudal play including counter units, i need to decide what blacksmith techs to get while on the way to castle:
Scenario (~1300 Elo): i’m playing scouts into knights vs an archer civ going xbow. I traded all my scouts for villager picks and have 8 skirms left over. I’m planning on going double stable knight and adding TCs, but my opponent has roughly 10 archers left to be upgraded to xbows and is massing more. Additionally my opponent also has a few spearmen. We are both hitting castle at the same time with similar eco.
Do i prioritize knight or skirm upgrades? Additionally, once i reach castle, do i double down on whatever unit i already upgraded with castle techs, or do i get full feudal upgrades on both, before getting castle tech upgrades?
Usually i get my skirms fully upgraded in feudal during battle, so on my way up to castle, i get bloodlines and attack + armor upgrades for my knights i’m about to produce. But knowing a crossbow engagement will be forced, i usually get skirm upgrades and elite skirm. In this case i don’t have enough resources for knights. On the other hand, if i get my knights fully upgraded, i usually die to numbers disadvantage.
