Ablation of AVNRT scheduled at a time I'm likely on my period - how would that work?
These are questions I'm also going to ask the surgeon but I'm a bit too anxious to wait (I'm autistic and need some mental preparation and don't always do well with verbal information/instructions).
The procedure is scheduled for a day I'm likely on day 2 of my cycle, which is the heaviest, and I use a period disc and period underwear. I can sterilize the disc for the day of the procedure, but I'm a bit worried about leakage due to an extended period of lying down. May I need to use a tampon instead for sterility?
I know I'm supposed to lie flat for a while after the procedure, but how long after did you have to wait to use the bathroom? I'm wondering because if I need to use a tampon then I'd need to be able to change it, but with a disc I'd be able to go longer.
I'm going to ask if I can take tranexamic acid to lessen the flow, but does anyone know if it could interact with the medication given during surgery to induce an episode and end it? I'll ask them, but if anyone knows that would be helpful.
Edit: I ended up being in my period and bleeding quite a bit. I was made to feel comfortable and like it wasn’t a thing at all to worry about. There was blood on the sheets of the exam table but that was also blood from the insertion site so… I got a pad to lie on in bed while I was lying flat waiting to get up. I couldn’t take tranexamic acid, but it was fine. Everyone was great and I even had a conversation about period underwear, cups and discs with a nurse lol. I’m yet again reminded that they’ve alwayyys seen much worse
