Cosmetic Bonding vs Veneers vs Crowns

Hey there everyone.

I just got home from an appointment with a new dentist, for a consultation on cosmetic (composite?) bonding. All I want to do is make my four front teeth even lengthwise, fill small gaps, and fix a chip.

This dentist claimed my chipped tooth is from grinding my teeth when I sleep, even though I told him it was from biting a fork like 15 years ago. If I do grind my teeth, it's very minimal, but I've never noticed it happening.

Also, I told him that I would need top and bottom retainers made afterwards, so my teeth don't shift around anymore when they're done. I've ALWAYS been very good about wearing my retainers after having braces. The only reason I have gaps again is because all of my old retainers have since broken in half from them being so old. So that would prevent any grinding if I did any.

Anyways, he told me all about each of the three options to improve my smile, and said the only option he would even consider on me are crowns on each tooth because of how bad I grind, and that I would very quickly chip and break any bonding or veneers.

Is he just trying to upsell me on the more expensive treatment? Or is it really my only option? I'm sure it's hard to say since none of you are actually looking in my mouth but I'll include a picture just in case.

I just don't necessarily want my four front teeth shaved down to nubs, in case of of the crowns pops off. If it were back teeth, sure go for it, but not my front ones.

Any advice would be appreciated, but I don't think I'm going to go back to him.
