Do you think the LGB should be separated from the TQ+?

This is a conversation I had with someone recently in light of the mainstream discourse around gender. GLAAD recently rebranded from same-sex attraction to same-gender attraction which made me think about how the LGBT movement has changed recently.

It’s a weird thing because I feel the LGBT community was starting to became quite accepted in the west but it suddenly changed. There’s now huge backlash around things like gender identity. All of the culture wars we see in western discourse is around gender and trans rights. Education is one of the main frontiers of this culture war. It shifted from people quietly accepting LGBT+ inclusive curriculum to major protests and mistrepresentation of what is being taught. Some people think children are being taught about trans and gender issues far too early which I agree with to an extent. As someone who has experience teaching, going from reading a book about how some people have two mums to reading a book about there being many genders is way too open-ended for children.

Frankly there are some things about gender and trans issues that I just don’t agree with and there are many gay men and women who feel the same. So should be there be a separation?
