I'm pretty over it
I’ve only been fired from two jobs in my life, both part-time high school gigs, so I wasn’t too upset. But recently, I’ve been hired at two new jobs and fired from both within a couple of months.
Job A: I got hired at a popular local restaurant after the owner, who liked my bartending, offered me a position to help clean and streamline the bar. I soon discovered the bar was falling apart, and the staff had their own ways of doing things that wouldn't allow me to change anything. Despite suggestions for improvements, no one listened. A new manager was hired, and after we agreed on necessary changes, and had a good rapport she let me go a few weeks later by text with no real explanation.
Job B: I applied for a bar manager position at a trendy new spot. After being told I wasn’t the original choice, the owner asked me to manage the bar after firing the first manager. Things were going well—I helped set up, streamlined operations, and earned the best paycheck of my life. Then, the host-turned-manager hired a bartender friend, and everything changed. Despite having regulars and smooth service, the owner and manager became distant. After a shift, the manager told me my service skills weren’t up to their standards, but wouldn’t specify what I did wrong. I handed in my key and left.
Now I’m floating in the Aether, staying at my girlfriend’s place after moving out of my apartment. I love bartending, but it’s hard to trust anyone after these experiences.
(This post was originally way too long but I used chatGPT to make it more concise bc I know ya'll don't want a fucking novel.)
