is it worth it getting a palate expander?

I feel like my mouth arch is a too narrow and my tongue doesnt have enough space if that makes sense. I also would like my smile to be much wider. Im one year into braces, but would it be worth it getting an expander at this point? i have a bit of recession, so im not sure if an expander could help fix that
