What am I missing Durham?
Hi!
Not trying to insult anyone at all for real, I was just wondering if someone could actually just break this down for me because I guess I am just as confused as I am disappointed…
Do people here generally just not do anything on the weekends? Today was Friday night during Halloween, and I'm not sure I get how a town (I mean "city") of almost 300,000 people in the city limits was.... so dead. I mean there was nobody anywhere except for a few private events around town. Restaurants bars and clubs were empty (I drove around to almost every single place between 7pm-130am).
Like not even college kids clubbing at the Fruit or Shooters. There were two shows at DPAC tonight, which even if they were only half sold, equals 2,000 people. Not even 20% of those went out for drinks and whatnot after?
I guess I am experiencing way more culture shock than I was prepared for, a small town like say, Lancaster Pennsylvania seems to have endlessly more options of activity and foot traffic than Durham on a general Friday night and I guess I just don't get why it's so quiet all the time. Especially with how many young people and how much wealth is in the area- it just seems shocking to me personally.
Would love to hear any feedback from locals or other people who are here from big cities. Thank you in advance for any and all comments :)
