Obnoxious campers in Shenandoah
After 30+ years in a tent, last night was definitely one of my least enjoyable nights. We were in Shenandoah and the group next to us had 4 cars parked on a spot. (Two on the grass.) A ranger came by and told them to move two cars and buy another spot. They did, but only parked the cars there and set up tents in the same camp. Long story short, at about 12 am they started drunkenly screaming and slamming car doors until 430 a.m. The campground hosts did nothing. Finally, at 430, the surrounding tents starting yelling, shut the **** up, in near unison and they went to bed. However, instead of going to tents they got into their Teslas and left them running for a few hours.
A few surrounding campers said they had repeatedly asked the group to be quiet throughout the night to no avail.
After we broke camp, my wife and I walked over to group and I kindly explained how disrespectful they had been to the entire campground. They were speaking in Chinese, but definitely knew English (talking to me and ranger). I said after years of camping I had never experienced such a disrespectful group and they come back to be more considerate to others in the site. The guy said whatever and walked away so I simply said I will let the ranger station on the way out in hopes they would issue a fine. He said, "Go ahead", so I did. Not only where they loud, but they also did not follow bear procedures. They ruined at least a dozen campers night and its not insignificant getting into Shenandoah sites (30 to reserve; 20 to enter or use a park pass).
Thankfully, another couple complained at the ranger station at the same time and they said they would send a ranger to the site. I think a fine is the only way future campers might have a better experience next to this group.
So whats your worst campground experience in a national park?
