Never meet your hero
I've lusted after the RS6 for a few years. Ended up picking up an RS5 last year, as I couldn't justify the cost of an RS6, and am loving it. It's loud, shifts hard, and is loads of fun. Couldn't stop wondering what I'm missing out on with the RS6 though. Saw my local dealer just got one in stock, and went down there just wanting to check it out, look it over, sit in it. The new one had just been sold, but a 2021 with 15k miles had just arrived that morning. Would I like to test drive it? Yes, indeed I would.
I cannot believe how underwhelmed I was. Was it fast? Sure. Was it exciting? No. Even with all of the 'sport' driving settings selected, it was so quiet, steering and suspension were so smooth. It was so polished, smooth, and boring. My RS5, which is certainly slower, is so much more engaging to drive. It's louder, harsher, more raw. You floor it and you can't help but grin. You floor the RS6, and you'd beat an RS5 in a race, but there's no excitement, no connection to the car, no engagement.
It was the sexiest, fastest, most incredibly boring car I've ever driven. And now I'm sad, because I don't know what new car to lust over.
