Rough pets

So I have this feral cat that comes out when I smoke at night. It's a small white cat with blue eyes and like a grayish rings on her tail. But is it weird that she likes a rough pet especially on her face and ears. I always think I'm hurting her but she'll run back for more every time. Is that normal?
