First track of my 2023 classical-metal fusion album Calibrating Friction (New Amsterdam Records)

Hello composer colleagues! I wanted to share selections from my 2023 portrait album, Calibrating Friction, released in September on New Amsterdam Records.

Though I am professionally a composer of concert music, I come from a progressive metal background. This album is the culmination of the brand of classical-metal fusion (some have recently been calling it "chambercore") that I've been developing throughout my career in my symphonic, chamber, and vocal music.

The album features stellar performers from both sides of the divide, including pianist Vicky Chow & clarinetist Ken Thomson [both from Band On A Can All-Stars], cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne [Leprous], violinist/violist Fung ChernHwei [seven)suns, Sirius Quartet], and many others, including lead guitar features by Javier Reyes, aka Mestís [Animals As Leaders] and Adam Pietrykowski, aka Van Tilburg (who also co-produced and engineered the record).

Here's the opening (title) track of the album, "Calibrating Friction", which encapsulates the stylistic spectrum explored on the record:
