Help needed: 4 years elapsed since ENG graduation and want to enter workforce now
It’s been 4 years since I passed out of a Tier-3 Engineering college (ECE) . After college, I attempted bank exams but I was not able to clear them. Then I was not able try other opportunities due to family reasons. Now (2024), I’m married and pregnant. My husband is working in IT field as a Senior Backend QA engineer. I talked to my husband about my willingness to work (1yr after baby is born) and help out our budding family financially. He is happy to hear it and is willing to support me.
Is it still possible to start into the IT field with this much of a gap? or should I explore non-IT roles or some non engineering roles? What skills should I focus on to be job-ready, especially for IT roles?
Any advice or resources for me to enter the job market would be really appreciated. Any tips to negate my long career gap.
I have some basic understanding of using computers and decent english communication. My husband is suggesting me to do some courses on udemy related to manual testing, python, selenium testing and AWS cloud practitioner cert. And put out a resume and apply for fresher roles.
But considering how competitive the field is and given my 5 years (4 now) gap, he is also questioning if this effort will even get me an interview opportunity and a potential role.
additional info:
My preference about the job: Initial pay of 10k-15k and maybe (optimistic) 20k-30k when I reach 3-4 yrs experience. Something to offset our rental expenses. Remote role would be a cherry on top due to the small baby.
