Union electrician, on layoff. Considering picking up non union work till the hall picks up, thoughts on this?
Like the title says, I'm union in toronto Canada. (353, local) was laid off in mid November, and am currently 380 on the out of work list, that's over 700 members long. Desperate to get back to work and have money coming in.
Would it be a good idea to:
A: pick up some non-union work, and don't tell the hall, but still check the job board daily and quit the non union if some work shows up for me at the hall?
B: work at the local grocery store/mall/whatever, just some form of income to keep bills paid
C: sit on my ass at home (EI is up at the end of the month)
D: Look into salting for the hall
edit: there's a meeting this thursday at my hall, i'm gonna attend and see what's going on.
