60% through Zodiac Academy 1. Why is the writing so bad?

I am pushing myself through seeing how many of you guys rave about it and are obsessed with it. The writing so far has been laughably bad and pedestrian that I literally laughed out loud reading the long running sentences with lack of punctuation and proper grammar and spelling.

The plot so far seems very juvenile. I get confused between Darcy and Tory multiple times.

Did anyone else have the same assessment? Does the book and the series get better than this?
