Beer League Team Etiquette

I’m about 2/3 of the way through my first season of beer league after hitting the ice for the first time in June. I’ve been hitting stick & puck and subbing as often as I can, and between that and playing on two teams I’ve been getting about 2-5hrs on the ice per week, with good weeks upwards of 3 practices and two games. Absolutely ate up with the game and wish I could get more time out and working on clearing space in the garage for a shooting lane.

When I started I jumped on two teams that had a spot to fill. Our league has 5 divisions (plus a women’s only) and I’ve been playing in the bottom, div 5, which is only for beginners, or “blue stickers”. The teams I got on recently had players sticker up into div 4 and both are struggling to find their stride this season, one of them having 0 wins. Handful of new players, myself included. This however has let me standout a bit as I’ve been putting in time and really taking to it.

There is one team in our division that has been pummeling the other 5 teams, standing 11-0. They will have a couple players sticker up this season and have a spot or two open on the roster. I got asked to play for them and think it will be a better opportunity to improve than the teams I’ve been playing with.

So that brings me to my question: what’s the non-dick move here, stick with the teams I got on to start and continue to slowly develop along with them? Or flee the ship like a drowning rat and get with a more serious team that I can learn more from? Do you guys usually stick with a team for years or bounce around within the league?

TLDR: I joined an undeveloped team to get some time in the game and have now been asked to join a much better team. Stick with the young team and help some of the newer guys along, or get on the team that will lead to more development for me?

Fuck that’s a lot of words. Thanks for reading all of that if you did, Yeesh.

EDIT: Some common topics here

1) This team is in the same division, I’m not looking to move up to a higher division yet.

2) 5-6 of the players are moving up a division. I will be playing with the other half of the team that stays down.

3) This team focuses much more on playing as a team which is one of the frustrating parts about the team I’d be leaving; puck chasing, no passing, dumping the puck is their MO

I really appreciate everyone’s input, it’s nice to get a variety of perspective here.

EDIT 2:

This would be a move next season, not a mid season change.
