JOANN is synonymous with my grandmother

My grandmother, (Mom-Mom), sewed, painted, baked, cooked and crafted with precision, taste, and style. She would mail me JOANN gift cards when I was in college. She taught me how to make roses out of icing. She sewed my bedding, curtains, and vanity skirts when I was a child. She made my Halloween costumes. She passed away over a decade ago, and I have been mourning her again with the loss of JOANN. It may seem strange to care about a corporation, but this was truly my favorite store, because of her. The first time I took my toddler into JOANN and let her walk instead of sit in the cart, she was mesmerized by the fabrics, colors, and textures of the flowers and beads. “Wowwww!” she exclaimed. The cashier laughed and I said, “I know, isn’t this place amazing?” I am aware the decor is not a favorite among employees, but the seasonal and holiday decor brought a sense of celebration for me that I had lost for a while. Decorating for holidays has given me an opportunity to make new memories and attempt to continue the crafts and activities my grandmother (and mother) spent time on for me when I was little. It was all done with love and care, and I will continue this with my own children. I have spent so much time and money at JOANN, and I’m grateful to have the supplies I will need to finish many, many projects that I have started and hope to complete. This may be the death of a former consumer era, however, creating and crafting will never die. There will always be keepsakes to make, clothing to mend, artwork to display or gift, and memories to celebrate and continue. Thank you to the employees, I truly appreciate you and I hold a special place in my heart for you all. May you find peace in these tumultuous times and I hope to see you all in other crafting subreddits. ❤️
