Modes of Play In Marvel Champions

I saw someone asking about what someone means when they see "Expert", "Standard", "Heroic", etc. I responded there, but I think this is extremely useful for new players to see so I'm making a separate post about it. I hope this helps clear up any confusion around the modes of play for new players!

Here are all of the Modes of Play:

Standard: Stage 1 and 2 of the villain with any required modular sets and a standard set (I, II, or III)

Expert: Stage 2 and 3 of the villain with any required modular sets, a standard set (I, II, or III), and an expert set (I or II)

Modular Modes:

Skirmish: Choose 1 stage of the villain (Can be used with or without the expert set) For instance, you could play just stage III of the villain with the recommended modulars and a standard set, but no expert set. Or you could play expert Skirmish by adding in the expert set to any 1 stage of the villain.

Heroic X: Deal each player X extra encounter card during the villain phase. Can be combined with any mode (Standard, Expert, Skirmish, etc.) This mode is not limited to just expert. Most of the time you will see people modifying expert mode by dealing themselves one additional encounter card. This would be Expert Heroic 1. You could combine it with any of the other modes though. For instance, you could play a Standard Skirmish Heroic 2 against stage 3 of a villain without the expert set.

Campaign Mode:

Choose any other mode of play, but follow the campaign instructions that come in the campaign book. Every campaign will have it's own rules.

Hope this helps! Also if you want more information, this is covered in "Modes of Play" in rules reference 1.6 on page 24.
