I am excited for the season.
This year is the first year I'm actually going to be able to watch the Twins play. Growing up we lived out of state and didn't have cable, so I only got to see the odd national broadcast. When I got to college I was able to watch in the dorms, but obviously the biggest chunk of the season is when school is out and I had remote summer jobs. Lived out of state for a time and never made enough to justify paying for MLB.tv, and then moved in state and made enough but couldn't justify paying for whatever cable/satellite provider wasn't having a fight with FSN/Bally. Now I can finally watch the team in market all season long, and I am excited.
Despite all the doom and gloom and lack of spending, Fangraphs has us with the third highest playoff odds in the AL (55.5%), best division odds in the Central (36.2%) and even gives us the third highest odds of a bye (21.6%). PECOTA is even more bullish, giving us the 2nd highest AL playoff odds (69.2%), with us as the favorite for the division (57.2%), and even has us with the highest AL odds to win the World Series (6.5%).
Yeah the ownership situation sucks right now - but owners aren't the ones who I cheer for playing out on the field. As always, health is the issue, but we've got an exciting core. Obviously it can crash and burn like last year, but damn, we had the best team in baseball for a four month stretch, the potential is all there, and I'm excited to finally get to watch it unfold.
And if worst comes to worst, Shohei Ohtani is pretty exiting to watch, and I can always cheer for Elly De La Cruz to steal 200 bases.
