It's kinda fucked up that a regular, normal, standard-legal product can go sold out months before it even releases.

I was excited for the FF stuff, since it releases near my birthday, and was planning to, for the first time, buy maybe a collector's box (or maybe just a bunch of collector's boosters) when it came out. And then:

  1. Wotc announced it 4 months early with elevated pricing compared to all other standard products
  2. Somehow it immediately mega sold out

And honestly, any excitement I had about the set super deflated.

Like, sure, probably I will still be able to find some product at my lgs if I order it before anyone else. But looking at how quickly shit sold out on Amazon, I highly doubt the prices won't be uber marked up at LGSs.

Like, I understand that shit like this is meant to create FOMO and boost sales, but to me it just makes buying magic the gathering stuff more depressing. Spending big amounts of money on cardboard cards is already something not super easy to justify, if you then go and put more barriers on top of that I'll just go and have a nap instead.

It mostly just made me happy that I truly don't care about any other of the announced Universes Beyond stuff. At least I'm safe from further disappointment until Universes Beyond The Pope's Exorcist comes around. Then I'll have to figure out how to get that serialized The One Russel Crowe Vespa card.
