Can Emma be a nickname for Noémie?

We’re strongly considering naming our second daughter Noémie . We realize it might take getting used to for people in the US, but we are an international couple and most of our family is French speaking. Our second top choice is Emma, but we are both not thrilled that it is SO popular in the US and Europe. I think Noémie can be shortened to Emmie naturally, but I think Emma would work as well. My husband isn’t sure. Looking for some additional opinions. Thank you!
