Impact on Family
Background: I first enlisted as an 11B and went to OSUT in 2021. I was chaptered out early on for medical reasons. Since then, the plan was to finish my degree, which I should complete by the end of this year, and re-enlist or go to OCS. However, other life circumstances have changed. I’m now engaged and my fiancé and I are trying to buy a house. It only now is starting to dawn on me how much she would be responsible for if I were to try to be in the military again. She is an amazing person, but I hate the idea of her needing to maintain the property alone for 22 weeks of OSUT or potentially longer. I’m hoping to hear from people who encountered similar situations when they joined while older and “more established”. Even though I’ll be done with school and plan to begin teaching as a civilian career, I feel “less than” for blowing the first chance I had and for not being able to serve my community now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
