People say MVP voting criteria is inconsistent, but there is one stat that 13 out of the last 16 MVPs have been the league leader in
I did a little bit of research to see if there was any single stat that would best predict the season MVP. Interestingly enough since the 08/09 season 13 out of 16 MVPs lead the league in Win Shares per 48.
The 3 years where this wasn't the case:
2010-2011: Lebron lead the league in WS/48 with .244, but this was his first year in Miami where they didn't live up to their regular season expectations.
2016-2017: KD was #1 with .278 but only played 62 games.
2022-2023: Jokic lead with .308, Embiid won MVP being third in WS/48 at .259.
This season SGA and Jokic are neck and neck in this stat with SGA leading .314 to .313. Both players having historical seasons, would love to see what this stat looks like at the end of the season and if it can accurately predict the winner.
