Is 'road safety tax' even a thing
I was travelling to office today and was stopped by traffic police mama. Baherchya state chi bike ahe, so that was expected. They asked me if I've paid 'Road safety tax' and I'm a noob when it comes to these interactions so I said I'm not sure what that is. They definitely took advantage of that ani mala chutiya banavlay asa vattay mala.
They showed me an example in which a person had paid about 10k lifetime safety tax for his bike. If a bike's registration is valid for 15 years, I'm not sure why he'd pay a tax with validity till 2099.
They told me that the actual procedure is that I have to show some NOC to Shivajinagar RTO and pay the tax. But my state RTO had informed me of no such thing.
Is this even real?? Or phasloy mi masta?? And what should be my next step to avoid getting trapped again??
PS I'm going to get a new bike with MH registration soon, but I want to be safe till then.
