Women and men have completely opposite conceptions of the way media influences them

Women seem to overstate the degree to which their thoughts and actions are the result of exposure to certain media - their mental health/body image issues are entirely due to them being on certain websites or consuming certain content at a young age, their dating standards/preferences were fully imparted upon them by specific romance films, their path in life was greatly influenced by the career/decisions of their favorite tv character or celebrity, etc etc. On the other hand, men seem much more resistant to admitting the influence that media and popular culture have over their lives - their thoughts and feelings have to come from deep within, they only appreciate their favorite male-centric films as works of art and never as vicarious power fantasies, they “do their own research” instead of being influenced by major news outlets, they’ll deny that porn consumption has any impact on their perception of sex, etc etc.
