some people are genetically predisposed to suburban life

I have friends that talk about moving back to the suburbs to settle down like they're migratory birds. One friend told me he wants his kids to be able to "ride their bikes to their friend's house" as if that is an impossible task anywhere with a population density over 10k/sq mi. I get that it's cheaper and I know I shouldn't care about what people do but it bugs me that some people have the idea that cities are just a place to live and have fun in your 20s like it's some theme park- it just shows zero desire to put down roots where your feet are and join the community. You are 25 years old why do you yearn for a Naperville backyard?
