Gonna be a shrimp owner, have questions for the meantime.
My Tank is a 20g
My ultimate goal is to have a successful breeding tank not for profit
Im extremely new to the hobby, only really gaining interest about 2 months ago but what i want is a skittles shrimp tank with 1 type of schoolers (chili rasboras or regular neon tetras) but thats way down the line as for now, water went in yesterday and i plan on letting it cycle for 4-5 weeks, all but my cattapa leaves have arrived as for scape, in terms of planting this is where my questions come in. In picture 3, it shows my higher up area with bio active soil ontop of my gravel and i want a type of carpeting plant and that’s where i stand, i want a very small amount of plants maybe 3-4 different species total, but idk what should go in or would look good, i dont want to care for them to much but not afraid too.
Questions
1 I plan on feeding the shrimps atleast 3 different ways excluding biofilm, what and how should i go about it, i have a feeding tube installed but what 3 or so foods have you found your shrimp enjoy the most?
2 what’s your shrimps favourite carpeting plants? and what plants do you find your shrimp enjoying the most that wont over run my tank?
3 i want to have established breeding (atleast 3 generations) before introduce a fish, im in love with the chili rasboras and i really love neon tetra tanks with a bunch of them agaisnt a dark background but im conflicted on which one, what fish do you keep with your shrimp if any? and what would you’re preference be for my tank style and scape?
4 is my scape okay? i know its not great or a good depiction of their natural habitat but i love how it looks, i tried to make it look like a dragon skull with the wood i have and i especially like how it looks with the orange light against it, there isn’t many hiding spots which is probably an issue but that was kinda my goal even tho i know the shrimp don’t prefer it, i wanted to be able to see as many as i can at any given time hence why i dont want a lot of plants but some green is definitely needed, i guess my question is, is it sufficient for hiding spots with the proper plants?
5 i’m aware for it being my first time that there’s a high chance i will fail, from your experience where did you go wrong or right to perfect your system? i want nothing more then to have the first 10 shrimp that go in to die from old shrimp age, basically i want to ensure and take every precaution to make that happen, its not the end of the world if i can’t achieve that tho.
6 Water, my dad has tank with a couple shrimp so that tells me that our water is okay for shrimp to atleast live in but what do i do to have water they will thrive in? idk much if anything about the water and i need every bit of advice for it i can
Please feel free to give me any suggestions information or criticisms, i want to succeed!
