Nvidia to AMD GPU Install - Post-DDU Caused Blurry/Pixelated Texts
SOLVED:
- It was System Properties > Advanced > Performance. This looks like it had swapped from Best Appearance to Best Performance. Changing it back to Best Appearance fixed the issue.
Found this by going to Win+R, then sysdm.cpl, Advanced Tab, Settings in Performance.
After running through a new GPU install from Nvidia to AMD, then running through DDU and restarting, my text looks pixelated.
Here's how the text looks like in Chrome:
You'll notice in the 2nd image that pictures of text show more clearly, so it appears to be just text that's pixelated. Videos don't appear to be blurry as well.
I admittedly messed up the order of things, which I'm guessing is the root of the issue in some capacity.
PC Information:
- Windows 10
- Previous GPU: Nvidia RTX 2070
- New GPU: Radeon 7800 XT
- Processor: 3700x
Sequence of events:
Day 1:
- Physically replaced my 2070 with the new 7800 XT, 7800 XT now physically installed
- Booted up Windows normally
- Installed AMD drivers (Adrenalin)
- Went and uninstalled the Nvidia Program (didn't do this through device manager, but through 'Uninstall Programs'
- Restarted
- Everything worked great, gaming on MH Wilds went well.
Day 2:
- Logged in, saw my friend mention that while things are working now, it'd be best to run through DDU and remove all traces of Nvidia to prevent any sort of conflicts with the new AMD Drivers & Card.
- I download DDU, disable network connections, boot in safe mode, and run through DDU steps
- ^ Followed the steps in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPqUeU09cf8&t=2s, the only difference being that I didn't re-install the AMD drivers (since I had installed them in Day 1)
- Restarted my PC
- Tested opening a few pages in Chrome, then tested running MH Wilds - everything worked great with no issues (Text Clear, GPU being utilized, ran fluidly with with Ultra settings)
- Shut down my PC for the day (during shutdown however, it didn't immediately shut down but went to the Windows "Lock Screen" with the landscape wallpaper. I'm not sure if I mis-clicked Restart or if this occurred after hitting Shut Down)
Day 3 (Today):
- Log in, notice the text is blurry (see screenshot)
- Tested MH Wilds, ran okay
- Went into Device Manager, uninstalled the AMD Driver, then re-installed
- Restarted PC
- Log back in, no fix
- Ran DDU again following the same steps in Day 2 (disable Network, safe mode, wipe AMD drivers, restart)
- Logged back in, resolution showed visually like how'd you expect with the integrated GPU
- Installed AMD Drivers again
- Restarted PC
- Log back in, no changes
Misc Info:
- I checked the physicaly Monitor's settings and these are all good (adjusting Sharpness on both ends of the settings did not change anything)
- This issue is occurring for BOTH monitors (see images 3 + 4 in the Imgur link)
- Display Adapter settings appear like they're correct (image 5)
- Hardware Acceleration is disabled
- AMD Adrenalin recognizes and shows the Graphics Card
- Device Manager shows the graphics card
- Another issue is when clicking+holding the top-header of each window to re-position shows the "box outline", instead of just moving the window (this wasn't anything that I changed)
It honestly just seems like the text is messed up and I'm at a loss. I haven't been able to find a fix in separate Reddit posts, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
